Three deputies of the “Bright Armenia” faction of the National Assembly have initiated a lawsuit against the founder of the website “1in.am”.
The editor-in-chief at “1in.am” says that the majority of lawsuits against the media outlet are not initiated by the government, but by the representatives of the opposition, including the second President Robert Kocharyan.
Member of the NA of Bright Armenia faction Gevorg Gorgisyan filed a lawsuit against “4rd.am”, demanding 1 million AMD compensation for insult in his address. Both the deputy and the media outlet refrain from any comments waiting for the court decision. The Information Disputes Council is investigating this case.
Arthur Vanetsyan, a member of the extra-parliamentary opposition and former head of the National Security Service is also in court as a plaintiff, having initiated lawsuits against the founders of “1in.am” and the “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily.
Shushan Doydoyan, member of the Information Disputes Council, gives a piece of advice to all the players in the political field: “Before rushing to court, first they should try to figure out their disputes and problems with the press with extra-judicial bodies. Why? Because it benefits all parties – the media, the courts and the person who has suffered.”
